The choice is yours. You could pick out the larger ones by hand and leave the rest to grow. Yes they can be left in until they decompose
Check hardness and ph as they do lower it slightly, the effects might be greater in softer water though!

It can happen from time to time when theres a lot of traffic at once. Usually a minute or two and it will clear.

ah yes oxford is pretty hard water. Very slow acclimatising when you get there as the hardness will be a shock. Be prepared to loose a few as well. The swordtails will love it though!
