Re: Complete newbie and clueless!

I think this is from the second post in the thread, way back when : You're in Scotland I think? Your tapwater is probably 'soft' so that knowledge will help choice of eventual fishies : platy, for example - bad ; betta and neon rasbora, for example - good, except a hungry betta probably means shrimp...

Re: Complete newbie and clueless!

Native tapwater averaged 0.89dGH German and KH 0.88 last year. Conductivity averaged 55uS/cm.

We don't know what these values are in-tank.

Re: Complete newbie and clueless!

I wasn't going to return, but this ... ... seachem aquavitro. ... drew me back briefly to make this comment. This is your first mention of using a product from Seachem's 'Aquavitro' range, designed for marine (seawater) tanks apparently - I had to look it up! Which one of the range is it - what does...

Re: Complete newbie and clueless!

Yes - it's pointless for you to spend money on water hardness test kits unless you were planning artificially to harden your tapwater and wanted to reach specific values of hardness. Given the nature of your fish I think I may understand why your member-of-the-public lecturer said what he said ; but...

Re: Complete newbie and clueless!

[no need to reply to this ...] Just popping in to remind you and threadmates that there are some 'vital statistics' for your tapwater upthread at 6:01am on Thursday 12th October, should you need to refer to them. Exactly how hard does your LFS (Local Fish Shop) think your tapwater is then, I wonder!...

Intra-Bubble or Inter-Bubble?

Something that's not occurred to me before now - mainly because I've not had true bubble-nesters (apparently) do their thing : is each egg inserted into a bubble ; or is a clutch of eggs released indiscriminately and each left to float between, or underneath the mat of bubbles? I can't tell for sure...
