Yes mine do a bit of that on the inside (they aren't daft, they know I might kick up something edible) but they don't like it when I do the outside. They are ok with the cleaning soln going on it's the big blue microfibre cloth to buff with that they are not keen on.

The mollies and guppies nibble my hand whilst I do this, the SAE & netted algae eaters are scared and dart into the back, the corys don't care and the shrimp will sit in their spot until I touch them and then they shift...

The cleaning of the glass is for our benefit and viewing pleasure and not necessarily for the fish's benefit.
I know when I clean the substrate and the glass the fish get excited as I might kick up something edible (as KevB states).
