Endlers ...dare I?

As some of you know I picked up some Endlers locally which are happily in quarantine and have been useful as dither fish as the Cardinals turned out to be very nervous when first moved in.



Now that keeping an aquarium in the garage is going to be out of the question because of condensation issues, I has crossed my mind about adding the six Endlers to main Puddle aquarium.

The worry is fry, bad enough with Ancistrus fry and having to remove them but it has become apparent that 'Fred' the Siamese Algae Eater has been the one reducing their numbers dramatically. So knowing Endlers don't have as many young each brood, although their young are larger than Guppy fry, I'm thinking is it possible to have them in here and their numbers will hopefully with fingers and toes crossed controlled naturally.

What do all think, should I chance it?

I've only seen two Ancistrus fry today, he get hungry soon enough!

Of course the option is to later on add a female Betta (Betta splendens) which also control them.

I read their fairly safe with adult Shrimp too.

Would an SAE be able to catch fast moving top swimming fry? Would have thought your X-ray tetra would also like to snaffle them if given a chance, if you still keep X-rays?

Just a thought, have you tried running a de humidifier in the garage? would that help?

We do have one but I've been leaving the door ajar to air in there during the day. Think de humidifier would cost too much run long term.

Speed he moves sometimes ...probably. Oh yes eight fully grown X-Rays, they don't miss a trick.

Chickened out with using the Endlers in this aquarium for the time being. Think while numbers of fry may well be kept down there is still an awful lot of thick vegetation in this setup where they could hide.

Well after a lot of thought I'm going to chance it. I still struggle to get a nitrate reading in this aquarium, if fact by the following day after a water change the No3 registers nil. So I think I might as try seeing as I already have them.

Having the 'overspill tank' in the garage will one way I can control numbers if things get out of hand but the more I think about it I think it will be unlikely. Only problem I do foresee which some of us may have is the cost of running an four aquariums.

My electric according to the smart meter is now showing £5 per day. ...lord alone knows what it will be after April with energy price increases.

With unknown issue with Harlequin Rasboras (see link below) I have been treating the Endlers with aquarium salt. None of the Endlers have shown any health problems and salt treatment will be seven days tomorrow.
