I don't think the line down the eye is relevant. Seriously Fish says the differences are the dark humeral spot and some other differences in proportion and bones etc. TBH proportions are hugely variable and those stated in original descriptions are taken from only one or very few specimens, all collected in the same place at the same time.
There is a 'bentosi complex' containing a few species. I have Gery's great work Characoids of the World, from the early 70's. He considered them subspecies... H. bentosi bentosi and H. bentosi rosaceus. A classic case of one species evolving slightly differently in different rivers.
