Anyone kept a Ropefish/Reedfish

Hi all,

Anyone kept one of these - truly fascinated by them and would fit into the oddball congo tank perfectly.

I've read so many different things (as is always the case with the internet these days) - i've seen sizes quoted at 30cm / 50cm - right up to 90cm!
Tank size recommendations as 3ft / 4ft and 5ft
Stocking as fine on their own right through to get at least 6!

I'm about to youtube to try and find some actual keepers as im pretty sure i can fit one in and enjoy it ... i dont want 6 tho!

I have. The 3 foot length myth came from an old typo that said 30 inches instead of 30cms. They don’t grow bigger than a foot long. And like Weather Loach and Kuhlie Loach and some other fish they benefit somehow from being tactile, so they should not be kept singly.

Thanks Blackghost! - great news and another weird fish for this tank! - Amazed at this point congo tanks arent more commonly done like amazon stuff!

What fish do you keep now adays! - you seem to have a great experiance right across most fish!

Out of interest, what should the tank size be for these guys?

Depends where you read Ben from what I've seen.

I'm going put one in my 4ft. They apparently need plenty of plants and hidey holes tho

I would say a 4ft is about minimum. 4’ x16” like yours Lee is quite nice for them.

I haven’t had fish for a couple of years now. I moved in with my mother who needs someone here. Between me and my two sisters there’s someone with her most of the time. My fishy stuff is all in storage in the garage.
