HTH
If only was as easy as that. These Honeycomb Ancistrus sp. (L519) are a little different, making it harder to sex these fish.
Males develop soft tentacles on the head and while sometimes females also do, it is never to the grand extent of those found on that of the conspecific male.

I love the eartheaters, great looking fish. I was actually having a look to see if there were smaller species for smaller aquariums (200l) and dont suggest mikrogeophagus  :swim2:

Further update:

The 3 x Satanoperca jurupari are going back because they're not Satanoperca jurupari but actually Satanoperca daemon.
Satanoperca daemon are not from the Rio Mamoré (as per my themed tank).
Once again the fish are mislabelled.
They are potentially too large for my aquarium as they (Satanoperca daemon) grow to around 10 inches.

Oh dear Stephen, don't you hate it when fish are mislabelled. Hope you don't have to go far to return them.

It's like some Cory being mislabelled, a little annoying.
I was suspicious after I got home and remember buying mislabelled Satanoperca jurupari from my local Maidenhead Aquatics (now closed) several years ago.
I got these from Maidenhead Aquatics Worcester (same franchise group as my previous local MA), so a 60 mile round trip.

I got the Sterbai cory from there too but they were correctly labelled.

I've had before now shop staff adamant that their naming of a species is correct all because they where listed as such by the wholesaler.

This can be quite funny when you know because of their mistake, the fish is under priced. :]

Well .... I returned the 3 x Satanoperca daemon to Maidenhead Aquatics today.
Firstly the girl (same girl that served me on Tuesday and originally from my local MA) said they were Satanoperca jurupari.
I produced two photos on my phone showing both species (as below) and explained that the one labelled as Satanoperca jurupari had 3 spots and that Satanoperca jurupari do not have spots and that the Satanoperca daemon is commonly known as the 3 spot eartheater.
I also explained that the Satanoperca daemon grow to around 10.5 inches whilst Satanoperca jurupari grow to around 7 inches and that my aquarium is not big enough for 3 x Satanoperca daemon.

Initially she offered a credit note for the value (valued only at MA Worcester for 6 months) but I insisted on a refund.
She telephoned her manager and I eventually got my refund.

So I walked away with my refund and 4 tubes of live food (daphnia & bloodworm) which cost £5 for all 4.
One bag of live bloodworm went down well with my fish on my return home.
