Well, colour me surprised, but the lighting is now on and most of the Tetras appear to have less white spots than yesterday. That was quick.

Ah, your starting to get the free swimming phase, now it's time to treat the Ichthyophthirius. During this stage the tomont cysts are at the most vulnerable and susceptible to chemicals.

Lucky timing then.

I was reading about how for 2/3 of the life cycle, they aren't vulnerable at all because of a very cunning gel type coating.

Die, you little bastards, die!

I wouldn't feed garlic too often, I only use it twice a week for the six weeks of quarantine, then weekly for a month and then every 6 months or so.
You do have to be careful not to overload the tank with it. I only use about a quarter of a clove each tank (I've got 4 tanks).
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

So, I did the first dose as above, waited 48 hours and did the second does. Now 48 hours later, as instructed I have done a water change.

The white spots on the Tetras have completely gone and they all seem to be just fine. Eating and swimming as normal. S fingers crossed that I have had a lucky escape here.

That's all the instructions say. Nothing about any more doses. It seems the treatment regime is complete. But should I do another dose to be on the safe side?

But....when I counted Tetras yesterday, I only had 12 where I should have had 13. Ok, so the Ich got one was my thought. But then when I took the lid off to do the water change today I found this:

My glass cover was kind of not properly on at times, and he/she must have jumped and got caught under the cover at some point. Then when I put the cover on properly, it must have squished the body.

Oh well....back down to 12 Tetras again, with the baby one making up the numbers.
