Just a quick question, I'm looking at getting some vallinsneria plants for the back of my 4ft tank, not sure how many I would need to purchase to
cover the background of the tank ??

Currently only have some Anubis in the tank so the Vallinsneria will be plants that I've not had before, there's a place on eBay k2aqua that has good reviews and selling 16 plants for £13.84,would this be enough to cover the back of the tank?

Thanks

Hi
I've used K2aqua many times. Always good quality with speedy delivery.
My Vallisneria didn't flourish however, but then again not many plants do in my low tech very hard water tank.
Superfish home 110 ,Superfish aqua pro 300 filter, + APS hob 500 filter.
Low tech set up.

Buy a few and give it a few weeks and it WILL spread. Seems to do better in harder water. Try going with a variety like vallisneria spiralis or tiger for something a bit different :)

I'm ripping mine out again as algae seems to be taking over the vallis.

Vallisneria, make sure you feed regularly @Flex365 otherwise it will soon die off.

I struggled for years to get it to grow until I started daily dosing. :]

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with these if you do go ahead. Wanting some vallisneria for the rear and left corner so this 16 plants for not so much sounds right up my street...

I think I started with that in my very first 240l tank and it spread but never took on much height in my very soft water. I’ve done much better with cryptocoryne ballansae these past 3 and a bit years.
240L Fluval Roma with Oase 600 Biomaster: 1 German red bristlenose, 4 male cherry barbs, 6 standard rummynose, 3 golden rummynose tetra, 9 emperor tetra, 14 cardinal tetra, 2 hengeli rasbora, 3 nerite snails, 1 adult Sulawesi snail and multiple juveniles continually appearing.

Parameters: gH2, kH1, pH7.4 (tap).

@fr499y - Do I stand any chance of growing it in soft water 2.52 Hardness German?

@Martinspuddle - I've got aqua soil at the bottom of the tank, will this provide enough nutrients or will extra dosing be required for growth and what product was you dosing with ?

@VikingMummy2015 Which type of Vallisneria was you growing, as I seen a few different ones with varying height growth?

I can’t remember exactly as it was 2017 I bought it. I remember trying 2 or 3 different types including a giant one I’m sure (in desperation!). The crypt ballansae has done everything I hoped the vall would do and then some. Still have loads on the go after 3.5 years, moving house and a couple of rescapes with severe pruning! My tank logs will show the difference (oldest tank log with blue tank back is vall, newer tank log with black background is ballansae)
