I'm looking at Firemouth Cichlids as tank mates for some Tiger Barbs but my question is would my tank be big enough or on the small side?
I know they grow around 5ish inches but the last thing I want to do is to end up with a fish clearly to big for my tank. I just cant seem to envision it.
Or would I be better off with some Rams?

They’re best kept in groups, but that would need a much bigger tank.

Thank you, everything I've read has suggested singles or pairs but I like to double check. I'd rather not keep fish by themselves that prefer to be in groups.
Suppose I will take those off my list and go back to the drawing board so to speak.
I don't suppose you have any suggestions for a bottom dweller preferably Cichlid but I'm open to suggestions.

They’re ok in mated pairs...
Any of the other small CA cichlids would be ok on their own (except Thorichthys), but most are pretty aggressive. Rainbow cichlids (Herotilapia) are an exception.
A lot of SA or ‘West African’ cichlids would be ok in your water aswell. It’s not too hard for most, especially the species that are farmed or tank bred.

[/quote]Ok thanks, I will ask the people at the LFS when I go in anyway to see of they are locally bred etc. I've got a while yet till I set my tank up so I can keep researching and annoying people in the forums [emoji28]

By tank bred I just meant all the commonly available species, that have spent a few generations in captivity and so are more adaptable to harder water.
