Good grief it's a month since I updated, where does the time go. Work's gone a bit manic recently ( 2 people have handed their notice in and management are panicking about labs not getting run so it's all rather stressful) and I've decided to have a go at a foreign language which is an after work 2hr evening class every week. Then there's a possibility of another music project and I need time to learn stuff if that's going to come off.
Hence the tank (though not neglected) has taken a bit of a back seat. I took out an unruly clump of Hygrophilia polysperma and limnophilia and have tried a few replacements but the main 'large' plant I tried didnt take at all to my tank (H costata) and I've had another go. Currently trying a mix of H polysperma australis (which should be bomb proof i would hope), Pogestemon stellatus (Ive tried other Pogestemons before with limited success so this is a bit of a gamble) and Ammania gracilis (which despite being slightly 'rosey' has so far remained untouched by shrimp or fish). I also transplanted one of my H guianensis cuttings over to same spot to fill in a bit of a gap at the back. Here's the new foliage :

I've moved on 3 of my 6 Melanotaenia trifasciata and (if I can catch them) will probably move on 2 of the 4 empire gudgeon as someone at an lfs is interested and I really don't need 4. I've noticed the female of the last 2 P furcatus has disappeared, both female and male had nipped down tail fins when I came back from holiday and I'm sure its the gudgeon, one of them has presumably got big enough to take the female adult furcatus Sad so I'm not holding out much hope for the plucky but rather stubby tailed male left. The tank generally is pretty chilled at present (though the C bleheri are always active and chase each other about a bit but it doesnt get out of hand) so I'm not sure if I want to introduce anything else at present even though I'll have room especially if 2 gudgeon go. My only male G multisquamata was looking pretty cool so I just snapped a couple of him chilling :
