Re: New raised pond build
Have a look for their wood protector ( it’s clear ) or the outdoor wood stain which I think has a 10 year protection guarantee on it. I’ve used it on some sleepers and the front is like new, the back (unpainted) has fallen to bits lol

Ronseal usually works well. You could always use yatch varnish if you don't mine the finish having a bit of a sheen to it. once thats cured it will be perfectly fine around aquatic life.

oil based wood treatment is the only way to go to stop wood from rotting. I've used engine oil in the past and a DIY wood stain (oil, parafin based) to preserve wood. As long as its dried fully before pinning the liner then you shouldn't have a problem.

You can get inline filters that supposedly remove limescale from the water. Aquatiere do one thats supposedly suitable for fish and the reviews do say they no longer get white marks on house plants or aquarium glass. I've personally never tried one though.

Re: Baby shrimp!
DuzMano the difference there is the crab is more suitable for his water type. A lot of breeders use RO water and re-mineralise it to meet the fishes demands. Just because something has been bred locally and sold locally DOESN'T mean its suitable for the water YOU are keeping it in. LFS will tell yo...

Re: In The Shallows
Yeah, there won't be any banding as I believe its a Macropodus spechti :) I haven't seen paradise fish for sale anywhere for years, and said to the misses, if I ever find them local I'll have to buy one. Sure enough, this shop less than a mile from work had 4 different types in stock  :D It's...
