Does the ph drop overnight if you leave tap water in a receptacle overnight, what is the ph in the tank normally? I'm wondering if there's something else going on here.... I was thinking the same but that's one hell of a drop pH 7.2 to 6.4. Think his fish are up to something ...perhaps their brewin...

You say this bottle of API Aqua Essential was gifted to you. Was it sealed when it was given to you?

I'm wondering if it's been mixed with some API pH DOWN.

Reading through this thread I now understand why these Swordtails are suffering. Your water parameters are the issue here, along with aquarium size and I agree with plankton this is more than likely stress.
