Re: Going bigger
Ahh I went bigger and it didn’t pay off 😂 I’ve never kept crystals before mainly because of the need for softer water. I’ve always fancied keeping Caridina dennerli. Just googled them! Amazing! If I knew they existed then I'd probably have got those. Depending on price and availability of course. A...

Re: Going bigger
Wow I have wood envy, love a good piece of wood  I have never got into shrimps, but sometimes I think I should try a separate tank just for them, but then I remember I already have too many tanks as it is! If it doesn't actually fit in the tank (there's still a good chance it won't) it might ...

Re: Going bigger
Oooo vampire shrimp? Atya gabonensis Still not quite there. I'm back on the old crystal red shrimp. Got some really nice white ones in the mix. SS to SSS grade which is exciting. Here's some with no lighting on the tank and they still need to colour up a bit yet. https://i.postimg.cc/VLKpm9D7/IMG-2...

Re: Sumpings got a hold on me
It's a 3' sump under a 5' tank, it could hold lot more drained down water but there's no need. I thought about this and it could do with expanding. I get very little drain down due to the way my tank is designed, if my wier let more water through and I was running a syphon return then the main tank...

Re: Sumpings got a hold on me
Much of the drain down after the power goes out is due to water Syphoning back down the return line. I've fitted an FX4 nozzle on the end of mine with one of them pointing up so when the power goes out the sump level hardly changes. https://i.postimg.cc/D0Kqx4x2/20231018-125854.jpg My slow flow rat...

Re: Sumpings got a hold on me
DIY overflows are simple and work, the hardest bit is getting the height of PVC right. Splashing noise can be delt with a bend or silicone pipe on the drain and an air hole in the top of the standpipe to stop gurgling. I've used a glass one previously ( big money! ) that had the return build into i...

Re: Sumpings got a hold on me
Can I ask what you found about complicated plumbing designs, etc for sumps, if the top tank isn't drilled? I know you can make some sort of u bend or s bend that hangs on the tank and somehow syphons water out the tank, but I can't find a decent resource on it now. I run an fx 6 on the big tank at t...
