Im not sure about the setup of the canister filter, I would’ve thought someone here will be able to help
Tannins aren’t a problem, they can cause the ph to drop a little as they’re acidic, but otherwise they can have antiseptic properties

Also as a note you shouldn’t need any buffers etc for hard water as all the minerals etc are already in the water, so it wouldn’t need buffering. Also did you make this adjustment gradually? As sudden quick adjustments can cause issues
