Are you sure you want to switch to sand, I remember when I had sand and it's a nightmare to clean with a syphon.
I use Aqua soil btbh this is not easy to clean and I have to use a very small syphon but it still sucks it up.

Very much depends on the moss and the wood. I may be being blind but it looks to me like the moss is on stone rather than wood in the picture. Moss and Wood
How long does it take for moss to attach itself firmly to wood? I have wrapped fishing wire around the moss to attach it to the rocks but at some point I want to cut off the fishing line and let the moss grow naturally.

Definitely full corpses, and my bad did not wash the crypts and looking at the tank now it seems the only logical reason.
