If they get into the water which they might do through fumes via air exchange, the fumes would cause the fish harm (like they do us of we inhale too much). Your best bet would be to move the fish and tank, or a few people have cling filmed/sealed the top to prevent any fumes getting in while they paint and while it dries. Just make sure you turn off any air pumps that might draw in any air/fumes

Cling film over the tanks is fine, I've used it - you'll need it for emulsion as well anyway. Wink Smile
You'll need to turn off any air pumps as they'll pull the fumes in as well.

If you have a lid over the tank, wouldn’t that be enough ? I know lids aren’t air tight but just a thought ?

I’d still cling film them with a lid. Better to be safe than sorry Smile

The fumes will still get in if it isn't airtight.
I've always used clingfilm without problems. Just wait until the smell has gone (windows open etc.....) Wink

I painted the living room last year which has two 200l tanks, one open top, the other with a lid. What I did was use a bin bags to over the whole tanks and sealed with cellotape. I did it like this for three reasons, 1) to protect the tanks from paint splashes. 2) to protect from fumes. 3) to also keep the fish calm as there would be lots of movement in front of them.

And of course the windows and doors all open to keep air flowing. I don't use airpumps on those tanks, but I would have turned them off as well if I had.
