Cloudy Tank & New Addition
#1
Im halfway through my fishless cycle and got and the fish tank has gone cloudy, which is expected but i'm not sure if its because I've just added a large piece of Azalea root....

Also on the Azalea root there is like white fluff like substance appear on it! - What is this / shall i do about it?

regards,
Dan

White fluff is normal on new wood. Fish tend to eat it, but if it bothers you then just pull it off the wood. It will come off really easy.

Thanks, was concerned it was harmful bacteria or something that shouldn't be in the tank!

Also, would you say its coincidence about the cloudyness it happened right after the wood was put in

the cloudiness sounds more like a bacteria bloom. It could be a coincidence. Did you wash the wood before putting it in?

It seems to have been cloudy now for atleast a week. - ive attached a picture of the white fluff which seems to be ever growing bigger..

and i've noticed on the white thermometer cable which is  pure white, it seems to have lots of brown bits on it now..

Any suggestions or would you say this is normal and could take some more time?

That’s exactly what the wood in my Barbarium did. I washed and soaked the wood before putting it in and still had tons of goo come out. The white fluff eventually went away on its own to be replaced by some brown fluffygoo stuff. Nothing to worry about. Can all be cleaned up if needed when you do the big end of cycle water change Smile
