Blue Acara Sick
#1
Looking for some help with my Blue Acara.

Back in May, we had ich in the tank and this Blue Acara was the first to show symptoms and was the hardest hit (ie most spots)

We cleared that up and didn't lose any fish. Then in June, the same Blue acara had a strange lump on its head - almost like a zit. It further developed what looks like a blood blister.

I spotted my other Acara was picking on it so I seperated it. (same tank I use a mesh container)

Now, its eye has swollen and it's face has too. It's still swimming and eating fine and doesn't appear to be bothered by it too much. I noticed a bit of cloudyness on the eye today.

I've been treating with general disease clear which hasn't made any difference.

My water levels are fine and no other fish in my tank are showing any symptoms. It's been around 8 weeks now and seems to only be getting worse.

I've no idea what I'm dealing with. I did think it was a secondary infection following the ich breakout but I've not been able to match all of the symtoms online.

I'm getting a reasonable match with Furunculosis.  Cross-referencing via Mr. Google suggests Aeromonas salmonicida may be responsible - but I guess (if it is that) it could be another A. species?

Having now seen the extra pics you added ...

I think the problem has now exceeded any hobbyist's ability to deal with it ; and it's most certainly exceeded the fish's auto-immune system's ability to deal with it.  If/when those lesions burst their contents may cause havoc.

Clove oil, I'm afraid, may be your best recourse (IMO).

Ok - I was thinking it may come to that. I'll get some ordered.

A very sad sight. Sad
Sorry to hear that you've had problems.

It could also be extreme HITH. I would treat the tank anyway with Waterlife Octozin to protect the other cichlids, as soon as.
Is this fish now in a different container until the clove oil turns up? If not, do so.
Make sure the diets are correct, and soak any food in garlic for a couple of weeks (twice a week) to build up the immune systems.
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! Big Grin

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!
