Urgent help required
#1
Please can anyone help me out, my wife suffers with horrendous Tinnitus, and is suicidal at the moment, it turns out that the filters I am running on my Aquarium are making her Tinnitus worse because of the noise they make, what I need to ask is there anyone on here that uses the Eheim professional 4 series external filters, how quiet are they, as I need to do something, or I will have to shut down my tank, my wife comes first I am afraid. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Ian. Who is desperate to help his wife's suffering.

Sorry to hear Ian Sad
Unfortunately i cant help with what the filters are like. Is there a way you could soundproof around the filters? Not sure if that would help at all

Ian, I'm not sure without checking, but I believe Stephen may use these filters. I use the Eheim Ecco, and my husband who has very sharp hearing can't hear it. I can't, but I am deaf  Shy. I think Eheim seem to make the quietist equipment.

Hi Liz, Thanks for that, I hope Stephen reads this thread, I have researched the Eiheim's and they do seem to be very quiet I believe, just want it confirmed by anyone who uses them before I order a couple. It's this or shut down my Tank, something I really don't want to do, and my wife doesn't either, but it might be the only way to relieve her Tinnitus.  Sad

I use an Eheim Professional 4+ and it doesn't make a sound. Completely quiet.

I hope your wife feels some relief soon.

Oh I am sorry to read this, hopefully you can get an answer.
We have just purchased one of these pro 4+ as ours in BB died a week or so ago.
Its in the unit and I can’t hear a thing, just opened the door and honestly no sound but the TV is on and I can hear the spray bar trickling.
I will test again later when TV is off

Just a few notes for you

1) Are the pipes vibrating from on the tank causing the noise? I've had this and fixed by putting foam under the bends.
2) Acoustic wadding - Box the filter in with this stuff and the noise will drop significantly
3) Place the filter on said wadding

Awe so sorry to hear that, My man suffers from very mild tinnitus and it’s the ‘ringing’ noise from plugs that can drive him nuts, I can’t charge my iPhone in the bedroom, that’s the worst apparently. Unfortunately it’s one of those conditions you think you’ve cracked it and then something else will set it off, he has one of those sound asleep pillows for the bed (I got one too they’re great, no more earphones hehe), said it’s a life saver at night, I really feel it for him having to have noise to cancel out noise.
He’s found the best way is just to experiment, We bought plug boxes, taped Tupperware boxes over the worst plug sockets, so many different chargers etc, there will be a way to dampen the noises
Sincerely hope you don’t have to break down your tank

Sorry to hear this Ian (no pun intended). I have the situation of having to wear hearing aids whilst suffering from tinnitus. Can't advise on the Eheim filters I'm afraid, I use Tetra externals and I have to say I cannot hear them.
However tinnitus is different for everyone and there are no guarantees.
Hope you get it sorted mate, would be so sorry if you had to break down your tank.
All the best
Bill

Thanks for all the feedback, well I have just ordered two Eheim Professionel 4+ 600's hoping this will give my wife some relief at least.

My two APS 2000 filters were a bad purchase in all honesty, so loud at the best of times, should have got the Eheims in the first place, but we live and learn.

Thanks again for the replies.

Ian.
