Nicks tanks.
#1
Hello, thanks for clicking, welcome to my tank log where I will keep everyone up to date with the latest developments with my aquariums.

So far I only have 2 tanks running, but I do have permission from the wife to turn our basement into a fish room.
Some of you may remember that I had this planned 2 years ago but life has got in the way really. We got married, twice, and life in general has just been manic but it will happen, one day.

A little history of my journey.
So it's been almost 5 years since I found a 30ltr love fish tank with all the equipment dumped outside of the flat I was living in at the time. That's what started this addiction. I put danios in there after 2 days of having the tank under p@h advice. Well luckily I decided to do some research on my new fish and returned them the next day and swapped for a betta.
Well obviously the betta didn't last long because the tank wasn't cycled and I have hard water.
So after joining tff I decided to stock it with a couple of platties and some amano shrimp.
That worked great and before I knew it I was bringing a 95ltr tank home and after a year or so I got my 300ltr tank that I still have.
Over the last 3 years I have had the usual hard water community fish, rainbows, livebarers, BN's, and the odd different species here and there aswel as by beloved breeding group of Corydoras Venezuelanus.

Now fast forward to 2019 and after loosing a few fish and feeling bored with the hobby I decided to overhaul my stock and after a few months of research I came across Rusty Wessel who is an American collector, breeder and all round expert on Central American cichlids.
His tanks inspired me to try something with a similar feel but with my own twist.
I love the cichlids but I also love seeing a nice school of tetra, but I was finding it impossible to find Central American tetra that would school and be big enough to not be eate so that's when I decided to not do a strict theme but instead just build a stock that I enjoy, based mainly on CA fish with a few exceptions.

So my stock in the 300ltr is as follows
16 Buenos Aires tetra (Not CA but the best tetra I could find for my tank)
10 Columbian red fin tetra (got these before I found the BAT's, will  rehome if I find more BAT's)
6 blind cave tetra
10 swordtails
5 assorted rainbow fish (I'll let these live out there days but won't be replacing due to temperature incompatibility)
2 limia
3 blue acara (an acceptable exception, need to rehome 1)
2 electric acara (another exception the the wife fell in love with)
3 rainbow cichlids (looking for more, these like a group)
5 firemouths (going to rehome at least 1)
4 T-bar cichlids (rehomeing 2 at the weekend)
1 Nicaraguan cichlid (looking for more to try get a pair)
And I think I still have some MTS but the cichlids decimated the huge colony I had.

I have another tank going aswel, a 125ltr tank that I threw together to house my cory when the cichlids started picking on them.
Currently residing in this tank is
15 Corydoras Venezuelanus
20 glass blood fin tetra, (old friends of the cory)
12 juvenile T bars (from the first spawn of my pair, looking for new homes)
2 BN's.
And a lone assassin snail.

A couple of pictures and that wraps up the opening post of my multiple tanks log.

First news I should announce is the abundance of cichlids breeding in my 300.
Currently have electric acara with free swimming fry, t-bars with free swiming fry, blue acara wrigglers and possibly the Nicaraguan and a rainbow cichlid having a second attempt in the rockwork.
Exciting times.

Yeah 2 wedding last December, 1 Hindu wedding and 1 church wedding so now I am stuck with her for 7 lifetimes 🤣
She puts up with the tanks so I can't complain, still got to get her to agree to a 10ft tank upstairs though.
