What happened?
I have 2 kinds the marina one which currently holds up my big internal filter as I’ve put so much media in it but the floaty’s are quite good.
I prefer a hard toothbrush & a nail scrub brush

What's happened?

Magnetic algae cleaner can be fine until you get a small bit of sand caught and it scratches the glass.
I don't use a magnetic algae cleaner but prefer to use a household washing-up sponge/scourer to clear any algae.

I got a microfibre cloth a few years ago from Maidenhead Aquatics and its great. Goes through the washing machine every now and then too.

I've got an MA branded floaty that I use front & sides, but only down to about an inch above the sand, then a bladed scraper down to the bottom. Scraper down the back glass, as I can't get my hand down behind the tank.

I use a magnetic cleaner but I always wash it before and after use, and same as Baddams, don't go gear the substrate: I also employ nerite snails to keep things tidy!

Well, what happened......
I deliberately didn't go anywhere near the sand.
There were no bits of sand between the scraper and the glass.

I have however, got scratches on the inside of my beautiful aquarium.

I also have dead fish, I think, from the movement of the pad on the inside.

I am so disappointed.

We have one as I can't easily reach the bottom of the glass and especially not at the back! Blush Before my husband realised he needed to be careful he'd put some mighty scratches in the tank near the base but luckily they don't show when it's filled. I've never had a problem as know to be careful. Handy but there are other options, I don't use one for my little tank for example.

Surprised it killed your fish though? What were they to be that sensitive?
Small tank - 60L - 4 Iriatherina werneri, 2 Celestichthys erythromicron, 1 small Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi
Big tank - ~500L - 1 Mastacembelus erythrotaenia, 18 rainbows (Melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi, Melanotaenia trifasciata, Melanotaenia boesemani)
