Nearly there! Jota's tank
#1
OK, waiting on a Primo 110l tank arriving before I can start a fishless cycle but most of the other equipment has arrived.

Tested my tap water and found -

pH 7.6 on both high and low test kits
Nitrate - 0
KH - between 1 and 2
GH - between 1 and 2

API test kit used.

More updates when the rest of the gear arrives.

Great news, looking forward to seeing it up and running mate.  Wink

I think it'll be the new year at this rate Ian. The Primo will be used to cycle the filters, 2 x Eheim 2217 then I'll get the Rio350 sometime in January. That's the plan anyway but a couple of shops are a bit slow in the meantime with equipment.

What's the hold up with equipment then ?

They said they sent it (tank and stand) to another guy with my name so had to redo the order. The new order arrives tomorrow so no biggie.

I ordered two Hydor external 12mm heaters and got one 12mm and one 16mm. I'm still waiting on the guy to send me a returns form via email but I can fishless cycle without those heaters by using the one that comes with the Primo.

How many weeks did you fishless cycle take?

Took about five or six weeks to do my cycle iirc, but then your tank is slightly less volume wise, but it takes as long as it takes.

Keep us up dated.

Don't want to call you Jota, what's your name can I ask, I know some on here don't want people knowing there first names for some strange reason.

It's Al.

Once I get it set up I'll keep updating this thread with the numbers. I think I'll try doing it at 28c and see if that speeds things up a little bit. I'm basically cycling the two external filters in the Primo then will be moving them to the Rio 350 when I get it.

Hi Al, yes a higher temp seems to aid the cycling process.  Wink

Tank and stand arrived today so I'll set that up tomorrow. Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long.

Worth not rushing the initial set up. Dont be afraid to try a scape and then leave it overnight before doing anything else. Much easier to move things around and try ideas before any water goes in. I got my hardscape well ahead of the tank and then cut a piece of paper same size as bottom of tank and tried some trial runs looking at it from all sides to get a layout i liked.
