I am trying to find a better way of feeding frozen. I only have a small number of fish, and if I defrost a whole block of frozen food it’s impossible to use it up before it starts to smell funky in the fridge.

Could I defrost several, mix for better variety, and refreeze in smaller portions? Or any better ideas please?

Could you not chip off some while still frozen and then put it back in the freezer?

When I had a smaller tank, I bought some of those 7-day pill boxes from Boots (they are just over £1, or loads on eBay / Amazon for a similar price).

Take out a frozen cube, dip a SHARP knife in hot water, and carefully slice each into halves / quarters. Put each small piece in a section of the pill box. Put back in the freezer quickly (they don't defrost as it only takes seconds).

I had separate pillboxes for bloodworms and brineshrimp etc so I could mix it up!

Good suggestions above, I've also read on there of people using a cheese grater to take some food off a block.

I feed half a block every few days to my 190l and cutting it in half can be awkward, a sharp knife, care, and a kitchen towel on to to stop it flying across the kitchen helps :)

For cutting flat frozen things, use either a rough plastic chopping board or put the cardboard from the packaging under the ice if using a glass chopping board.

Cleave the ice rather than slice it, apply all the force (not excess force) straight through the block rather than using a sawing motion which puts pressure back and forth and makes the ice more likely to slip.

I was chopping a cube up yesterday and half of it flew off the counter and hit one of the cats.... I'll remember to put a bit of kitchen towel under it next time!

Fill a mug with freshly boiled water, and dip your sharpest knife in for 5 secs. It will cut through ice like butter.

Or stick a load in a sandwich bag, crush with a rolling pin or other heavy object, and then freeze flat as crumbs/chips you can break bits off more easily.
Or buy more fish and then use a whole block a day!
