Just a quickie does any know if clay is okay for aquarium use, pots are often used and these must contain some if not all clay ? The situation is basically instead of slate for making some caves i can get hold of some new clay tiles which are smooth so ideal for corys and just wondering if this would be okay as an alternative to sharp slate ?

solid natural clay is fine. I believe the air dried stuff isn't?

Why not just buy a cave whether clay or coconut.
I have a clay/terracotta cave which I bought off ebay, brand new. (ebay link)

I've used those terracotta flower pots before, either whole or pieces of it.

It's very light and sections can be stuck together with aquarium sealant.
I made some a few years ago (see images below). (click to enlarge)

I even attached some plants to the lava rock.

It actually looks really good that, literally just oookijg for anything i can use and which would be most suitable for chorus and a bristlenose, i'll keep my eye out now for lava rock after seeing that Thankyou !
