So after a heater for the tank a reasonably priced one that is good. Tanks 400l and only after one hopefully seems like a good flow round it so far. Just don’t want to clutter up with 2.
I have read a 300w will struggle to keep temps up and can’t find many 500w ones that have good reviews.
Anybody able to recommend.

2 heaters in a 400 litre is hardly clutter.
I have two in Sunnyside (300l), both installed horizontally, and unless you look you don't see them

A 300W should heat that no problem, unless it’s in a cold room.

@Juwelrio a Eheim Jager 300w is rated up to 1000L aquariums, and is suitable for a 600L. I ran one in a 240L that was in a single glazed porch ( on a marine tank at that! ) and it was easily able to keep the set 26*C even in winter months when the outside temp was -5*C. A cheap 300w might struggle with a 300L tank.
