Background hmmm. Jurys still out on that. Not sure how well it comes across but those walls are actually a light green.
If I do go for a background it will probaly just be a large sheet of black foamboard that I can just slide down from the top. For extra bling I might add some leds pushed into the foamboard in some sort of twinkling star pattern.
On the other hand If i leave bare I may well fit some sort of backlighting system to the lid exterior
Of course the problem with no background is that you will see pipes through the tank.

The foamboard sounds ok then. Speaking from experience - its a pain in the posterior to fit anything to the back once the tank has been fully set up and has become immovable..

easiest thing to get in there would be a sheet of black felt/curtainmaterial with fishing weights along the bottom to make sure it hangs properly.
Add some screw in cup hooks to the Lid section and then just hang them via eyelets in the top

Have you thought about (I know this a pain) lifting it back out and painting the background?

If your tank is too close to the back wall you might struggle with cables, I made that mistake and cannot fit a three pin plug down from the top of the tank, just a thought.
