@Stephen they’re not similar at all.

Nearly all ‘Peru altums’ (which are actually P. scalare) for sale are tank bred so they’re not too fussy about water

I wonder why they are nicknamed "Peru Altums" when they are actually Pterophyllum scalare as opposed Pterophyllum altum?
Pterophyllum scalare are more forgiving than p.altum.

They have the well defined ‘duck-bill’ that altums have, and have a similar body shape, which is why they’re sold as ‘Peruvian altums’ (an altum-like angel that is cheaper and easier to keep).
(In fact that duck-bill forehead is in the original description of both scalare and altum).
