I came across these on a trip to Mexico (Yucatan peninsula), however I'd question whether they're actually from the region as most of the rivers are underground, with cenotes opening to the surface, as such:
Any ideas on these? Part of my scepticism as to whether they are native to Mexico is I spotted an Oscar in the same body of water
A Central American Cichlid (Or maybe not).

Mayaheros urophthalmus, the Mayan Cichlid. They’re native from Mexico to Nicaragua. They’re also very common in Florida (introduced).

Thanks, I was convinced it was going to be from somewhere else in the world due to the Oscar.
