think we may have a problem

Betta's, Gouramis etc

lynnes betta( flamboyant george) may have a problem. past couple of days he as spending a lot of time asleep on the bottom of the tank and he isnt as fishy? as he usually is. have done water changes and filter cleans, but he isnt even interested in food. not sure how old he is, but i have a bad feeling. anyone got any ideas? and im still battling hair algae.

Have you been using chemicals against the algae?
If so, full water change and see if he recovers.
Labyrinth fish are very susceptible to meds/chemicals and you have to half dose to be sure they can cope.

nope, just been trying to rub off the algae, im very wary of using chemicals in the tanks apart from tap safe stuff. he is still hiding on the bottom and its not like him. he is really personable and actually comes to his name. he has moved from under his plants to behind the heater and the water is nice and warm.

In which case, we'll need to know about everything else - all the water parameters and diet, and an estimate at his age, like how long you've had him.

with a heavy heart i have to say he passed tonight. the water was fine , he was on micro pellets and a bit of blood worm and brine shrimp. not sure o his age but we had had him around 18 month. when i saw the body he didnt have any damage, so im thinking just old age. the mrs is in tears , he was a cool fish

cheers jen and ginger. going to close down the tank and hopefully get a 2 foot on a stand for the front room. hopefully get another fighter, they have great character and personalities.

If you'd had him 18 months he was probably around 2 years old, which isn't too bad for bettas who live for around 2-3 years.
