So the other day I was scrolling through a webpage of Bettas for sale and saw a very elegant little creature that was labelled as a female Betta imbellis but looked wrong shapewise in the pics, the colour was super pale from stress. I ordered it and have ended up with this little guy. It looks green or teal or blue depending on the light. It's a male Betta mahachaiensis isn't it? No sign of red on the fins which apparently discounts imbellis and splendens.

Whatever it is, the name is now Eddie 😁

Sorry for the bad pic quality. It doesn't stay still for more than a second!

It may be, I'm no expert on them...but...if it is don't they need a mild brackish environment?

Yes your right @plankton but that isn't Betta mahachaiensis. See Below.

Thank you. It turns out you are probably partially correct. The seller got back to me and he explained. "He looks like Mahachaiensis but the shiny colour is from Hybrid. They can be both because hybrid are developed from Mahachai."

So he's an alien Betta 'lite' 😁

Thanks for your help.
It turns out he is a hybrid but probably more Mahachaiensis than anything else. I read that they can be kept in medium hard to hard freshwater as well as brackish. My water is hard so hopefully should be good for this guy.

Beautiful looking fish. I hadn’t realised stores were selling wild types.

Very few stores are, and to be honest I would prefer to use a online breeder then you would know the fishes age.

Thanks, I actually got him from an online store. Nobody around here has wild bettas or even particularly nice Betta splendens, not that I have managed to find anyway.

My F1 Wild Type Splendens Male.

Does anyone else have these? I’m interested to see if they occur naturally in different colours.
