Hi all,
Has anybody ever kept rummynose tetras in a corner tank before? Just wondering if they typically swim back & forth across the front of a corner tank or not.
Thanks
Brian

I haven't kept them in a corner tank, but I have kept them and they are very active fish who very much do swim the length of the tank so I would think they would prefer a long tank rather than a square/corner shaped one.

Yeah I was thinking that too possibly. Never been able to get schooling behaviour from my fish just wondered if they'd have been an option.

Rummies are great for shoaling and swimming back and forth. You could measure the front curve of your tank and see whether this might be long enough for them to swim back and forth.
If you're looking for tetras that keep interacting with each other I can recommend Black Phantoms. Its less of a shoaling behaviour but the males like to keep showing off and measuring their strength with each other, so there is always something to watch.
Or a nice shoal of Diamond Tetras - again, great interaction, sparkling scales, very boisterous.

Rummies do like to swim at least the length of a 3-foot tank - they seem crowded in a shorter one. But in my experience they don't always use the full length of a 4-foot tank.
To get the best out of them you need lots (30+) and then they are stunning.
There are 3 different species; I've got a mixture and they all shoal together.

I've kept them in a Trigon, and yes, they went all over, but especially side-to-side.
It's weird when they go to the back of the tank and then all come to the front though.

If at first you don't succeed....

Mine live in my 190l corner tank and shoal together and use all the tank, its heavily planted at the moment though so swimming space is restricted.
I have 2 different types that shoal together and have had them 6 1/2 years so they are getting on a bit now.

I'll probably need to wait a while for my numbers to dwindle before I can even have a small group of them. Will definitely try them out at some point though.piker wrote: Mine live in my 190l corner tank and shoal together and use all the tank, its heavily planted at the moment though so swimming space is restricted.
