I think a good retailer makes all the difference so I thought I would add the ones I use and that most of my stock is from;

Maidenhead Aquatics in the garden centre at Belton near Grantham, this would be my nearest although 2/3 of the tanks are basic stock fish like guppies they often have some nice extra's

Aqua design aquatics Skegness, excellent small shop, it is small so you do take pot luck with what they have in, also the oddball types seem to get reserved quickly, they always have something interesting to look at in the tanks at the moment they have a type of small glass tetra which is a new one on me, I do like a bit of window shopping, although small time is needed to look round as it's easy to miss stuff

Peterborough - I believe The Water Zoo is good not much personal experience as it's a fair drive and parking is a pain but they seemed to have a large and good selection
Wharf Aquatics, Pinxton ok it's in Notts bit of a drive but huge place, well known, well regarded, stock a lot of large fish cichlids and the like, had a nano section as well last time I went, don't go often but can easily spend 2hrs in there! :]
