Thanks Ian, I will definately bear that in mind, when next ordering the padsplankton wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 12:29 pm You don't have to change the polypad weekly, just rinse in old tankwater until it start to disintegrate.
The longest I have kept a genuine Juwel one is 18 months. The generic ones don't last as long, but they are a lot cheaper and do last a few months......

Yes I was definately thinking that ceramic rings were releasing the bits Into the waterRedpanda wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 14:41 pmMy water is also bitty, like it has some dust to it, especially you can see when get the filter going again after water change.sie84 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 19:54 pm My water seems really bitty and not as crystal clear as I would probably like, could anyone shed a little light or some pointers please?
The tank is a jewel vision 180 running the built in internal filter, I have the ceramic rings/tubes inside for the 'munchers'.
Thanks
It’s fx4 , but also have same media as well as sponges. I’m not sure how to get rid of it other than change this media completely.

The carbon pads are only fine filtering normally used to remove tannins or medications. They only last about 6 weeks, you’d be better off sticking another coarse or ceramics in to house more bacteria

Hi Simon
Maybe an external filter would be better as you previously mentioned.
My recommendation would be one of the following:-
Tetra EX800 (sometimes listed as Tetratec EX800 plus)
AquaManta EFX300 (Maidenhead Aquatics)
Eheim Pro4 350
Fluval 307/306
I hope you get it sorted as it can be annoying.
All the best
Stay safe & healthy everyone

I did think that was the case that's why I never bothered putting this in at the time of setting up, I'm not currently dosing with anything that would require the addition of the carbon pad so I won't bother adding it, I probably do still have room for 1 more bag of ceramic or media so will do that for now until I get an external filter.Gingerlove05 wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 20:17 pm The carbon pads are only fine filtering normally used to remove tannins or medications. I have never just had an internal filter and can't seem to trust its reliability to filter the whole tank properly (doesn't help that it could be quite old) and so far with the bitty water it isn't doing anything to ease my mind haha
Thanks for the tips on filters, I will have a look and see which one takes my fancy.
The water quality is driving me crazy!! Haha all I want is crystal clear water, surely that's not too much to ask is it? Haha

I can always send you some of my water …
Seeing those bits floating around can spoil your enjoyment of the fish, I know it's frustrating but you'll win in the end,
As long as the fish are healthy is the important thing.

Try a bag of Purigen, that should sort it.
