I am seriously considering changing my aquarium theme.
I love the fish I have but there is a lack of colour, no reds. blues, yellows etc..
I am currently updating a theme (more intense research & double-checking my datasheets), which I feel will give me a bit more colour.
If it happens I may have some blues, reds, greens, golds etc..
I will be keeping the Cupid cichlids (Biotodoma cupido) and the False Penguin Tetra (Thayeria boehlkei) as they will fit in with the new theme.
Andys temperate tank wrote: Thu Jul 09, 2020 17:57 pm Will you be replacing the Cory's with another type?
I will replace the cory and other fish except the Cupid cichlids (Biotodoma cupido) and the False Penguin Tetra (Thayeria boehlkei).
It's so I have a bit of colour, no real other reason as the fish are lovely.
When I have made the 100% decision to change (quite likely) and sourced the new fish then I will leave clues to the new river theme.

Which south American river will my new theme be?
Clue One:
This river is in south America and within the area circled in the map below (click map to enlarge).
The official language in this country is Spanish.
In this river there are Cupid cichlids (Biotodoma cupido) and the False Penguin Tetra (Thayeria boehlkei).
I will add other fish as clues to the river over the next few days.

Good luck

@plankton
How the hell did you guess that Ian?
You are 100% correct.

I will not be stocking panda or trilineatus though.
The theme will be a degree cooler.

I know and I only gave one clue. :dodgy:

The map showed Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and southern Venezuela.
The only fish mentioned were Cupid cichlids (Biotodoma cupido) and the False Penguin Tetra (Thayeria boehlkei).

Sorry :P
It included Peru so I had this thing at one time about corys not from Brazil (well it originated when my daughter went to Ecuador and I looked up to see what she could bring back - lots of dwarf corys and aspidoras) and I knew that pandas and trils come from there (got/had those), I just looked up to see where cupids are found....... ;) :D

I totally would have guessed that too 🤣🤣.

Sounds like a great project. My inner zoologist would love to do the same but my outer rainbow loving body says PURPLE FISH!! And after my experiences last night with less than clear water, I can’t see myself going blackwater either 🤣. Maybe give me 10 years and a bigger tank.

Sorry Ian, I don't believe that answer. :P

Cupid cichlids are found in many rivers in countries such as Peru, Brazil, Guyana, Bolivia, (although Guyana was not included in the circled area on the map).
In Peru they (cupids) are found in the Marañón, Nanay & Ucayali rivers.
So guessing the correct river was either good work or an educated guess. ;)
