Didn't they eat swan back in the day ?

I don't buy turkey, don't like it as it's too dry compared to chicken.
I'd be happy eating sausages at Christmas or even a nice Chinese meal but we always have a nice Sunday roast at Christmas (usually chicken).
As Christmas day falls on a Saturday this year I might as well cook extra ready for the Sunday.

That’s fine if you have that option. If I stay home I don’t get paid! That said, I haven’t joined any queues and I’m hoping things are more normal by mid-week when I will be in the red. :s

Our Henry, decided it would a good idea to eat a bird on Christmas day, either they had Peacock or Swan, before that many had Goose. After the discovery of the 'new world' he became first English monarch to have turkey for Christmas. It fell out of favor for Goose until some bloke called Dickens wrote a book called Christmas Carol in which as we all know Scrooge sends Bob Cratchitt a large turkey for Christmas day.

Personally I love Turkey, although I have to fight Charlie for it!

I manage in retail. Our shortages arent from over purchasing atm. Its more about driver shortages and warehouse pickers/packers.
We lost a load, then lost to sickness and people pulling sickies etc…
We pull agency guys but they dont have the same buy in to the job.
This petrol thing is ridiculous though.
I keep looking at lorry driving now im separated from the misus. Long days away wouldnt be an issue. I just want to avoid London and most work im seeing seems to include London driving in cabs

I managed to do my usual thing this morning ie: fill the tank like i do every month/4 weeks, before some petrol stations started bringing in limits. Although queues were starting and some stations were already out if diesel from the panic yesterday/last night.
I was worried people thought i was stockpiling but this my usual habit. Then my OH has shown me photos of people with about 8 jerry cans which is madness 🤬 I dont feel so bad anymore :D but it is ridiculous the reaction brought on by the immediate mention of “dont panic”, which is known to immediately cause everyone to panic 😤
To the tune of “the saints go marching in”:

Most night trunking doesn't go near London. Midlands hubs, one load, less traffic and no one to bother you.

Cool thanks for that will look into it. Other thing that keeps cropping up is train driving starting out as a shunter to learn the ropes
