Hi all,
I just did a water change and before my male swordtail was swimming around normally but after I changed the water I thought he was dead so went to take him out (with the net) but then he started swimming normally again but keeps floating to the bottom of the tank and then laying on the plants (still looking dead) but then moves every time I go to take him out swims normally for a little bit and then acts dead again??
Strange swordtail behaviour

Did you remember to add dechlorinator? Was the pH matching from tank to tap? Temperature matching?

Thanks for the replies, all I can say is yes I ensured the temperature and PH was the same when I added the new water, I also added seachem prime to the tap water and a bit of ammonia remover.
Unfortunately my swordfish sadly passed away a few minutes ago but my other fish (female swordfish included) seem to be doing fine

Has the hardness changed in the tapwater, even if the ph is the same?
Have you got hard water (they need hard water)?

I didn’t measure the hardness of the change but I’m sure I’ve got hard water especially since the rest of the swordtails have been doing fine in there for weeks. I got the male about a week ago and he’d been doing fine even with other water changes but after this one he didn’t seem to be able to handle it

How big was he and what size is the tank?
I'm looking for other reasons for being stressed before the water change....
Also you say you've had him a week and there were "other water changes"....when and how many and also why?
