Odessa Barbs

Had a group of these 2m, 4f, males seem to pester the females and now to of the females have died. From want I read you don't need to keep a certain ration of m/f so am I just unlucky.
Want to get my facts correct before I restock.

How big is the tank?
You may find less problems with a bigger group, say 10....?

Odessa Barb (Pethia padamya) apparently can suffer bacterial infections, you tested your parameters?

Reason I ask were there fat, was because there might of been a chance your female barbs could have been egg bound.

Also what foods are you feeding these Barbs?

Did a water change Friday and parameters were fine, two other females seems fine ATM. Feeding on frozen tropical mix and fluvial bug bites.
Will give it a week or two and just replace.

What's the tank water temperature ?
The reason for the question is that Odessa barbs like it cooler long-term, around 21/22C would be ideal.

Just be careful about using any dry foods with Barbs as I found to my cost.



In my case it was down the use of Freeze dried tubifex which caused bloat and eventually death.

As @Stephen has already mentioned temperature is also a factor with some Barbus species. I keep my Black Ruby Barbs aquarium heater at 70°F and the water temperature runs at around 71 - 72°F
