Hi all new on here ...
looking at replacing my internal filter with a fluval external 407 ...little confused though .. Specs state it's suitable for up to 500 litres or 100 us gallons ...but 100 gallons is about 380 litres not 500 so which is it ?.my tank is a juwel 350 so wanted to go a bit bigger on new filter capacity

What manufacturers state as up to is a bit wishful thinking, I'd go for the smaller value.
If your filter is on the small side it will need cleaning more often, I went one bigger than the 407 to an FX4 for my 240l and don't regret it. The £25 price difference isn't much and it should fit in your cabinet, I'd get an FX6 for 350l but it's a bigger jump in price.
The extra flow suits my plants well but if you use CO2 or have flow sensitive fish it might not work for you.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

The Juwel Rio 350 is a 350L aquarium.

The Fluval 407 is suitable for aquariums of around 240L despite what the manufacturer states as "up to".
On a 350L aquarium I would personally look at 2 x external filters such as 2 x EHEIM pro 4+ 350 or 2 x Fluval 307.
I have 2 x EHEIM pro 4+ 600 on my 550L aquarium.
If wishing to just have one external filter then something with an advertised flow-rate of 1600-2000 litres per hour.
The JBL CristalProfi Greenline e1902 would fit the bill as would the Eheim Professional 3 Filter 1200XL.
I personally feel the Fluval FX filters are a bit too much power for a 350L aquarium.

All the best

You could also consider the Oase biomaster range, the 350 might be worth a look.

Weird you think they're too powerful for a 350. I'm running an fx6 on my 180L 1m long tank and flow is fine. I did want it pretty high flow as its the zebra plec tank, but I still had to ass the wave maker for 'proper' decent flow. Cardinal tetras don't seem to mind the power.

On a 350 I'd go for an fx4 or fx6 if sticking with the fluval range. I had a 406 on my 180 and it wasn't enough for the amount of fish I had in at the time.
