Hi folks.

I've been looking at specifically Caridina and Neocaridina shrimps and whether they'd be appropriate to share my Cory brothel or not. I cannot find any information in my usual sources so I don't know what to trust. I have soft water, which seems to be the main requirement. Does anybody have any sources they can point me towards for some reading please?

I like the idea for photography purposes and my Amanos have lived for so long, I've started to really enjoy seeing the little lads. Makes me want more 😁

Cheers!

For soft water you'll want Caradina, and a calcium source.
I always suggest the cheapest option which is to get a "cuttlefish bone" (as they use in budgie cages), break a small piece off and boil it for a couple of minutes (it'll sink then). You'll still have a load left to do the same when that piece runs out.
If at first you don't succeed....
...get someone else to do it! :D

Enjoy your fish, shrimps and snails!

Will that not harden the water slightly?

Both Caridina and Neocaridina shrimps being invertebrates really need a neutral pH for their exoskeleton.

Any less, like acidic water conditions will causes issues for their molting process and even death.

Marks Shrimp Tanks on Youtube and his website has lot of useful information.

I'm at 6.9, so shouldn't really be an issue. I think I could set my 25l once the rack has arrived.

My betta tank went from 20 cherry shrimp to about 140 in my first betta tank @BigBen.

My water is soft and acidic like yours.
64l kitchen tank: 16 golden tetra.
5ft 425L: 3 blue angel fish, 30 rummie nose tetra, 20 black neon tetra, 1 longfin bristlenose plec, 2 corydoras sterbai, 24 corydoras duplicareas,2 SAE.

From what I remember anything less than pH 6.5 you will be pushing your luck with Caridina and Neocaridina shrimps.

BTW, the small piece of "cuttle bone" doesn't make any difference as a rule to water parameters. ;)
