Sorry for your losses.
Gourami are soft water fish and don't like hard water long-term.
Dwarf gourami are bred in a cocktail of meds and are therefore prone to their type of iridovirus if kept in hard water.
I'm also not sure they aren't both males which is a no-no in a tank as they will fight.

Also as a note you shouldn’t need any buffers etc for hard water as all the minerals etc are already in the water, so it wouldn’t need buffering. Also did you make this adjustment gradually? As sudden quick adjustments can cause issues
