Anyone know what this is? Has my single miniature rabbit snail laid an egg and it’s hatched already? Or did it come with the shrimp 🤔 It’s only about 3mm big! The only snails I saw in with the shrimp at the shop were nerite snails, but he looks more like a rabbit snail!

I hope I didn’t hoover up anymore as I did a water change yesterday 😭

Hmmm…difficult to tell but it doesn’t look quite right shell for a Sulawesi. You can see their distinctive body shape and colour from tiny (I have new babies appearing most weeks). An individual can produce live young (not eggs) because they hold onto the young internally for a looooong time.

See now I’m wondering if the snail I already have is what I was sold it as! They were advertised as mini golden rabbit snails, they told me they were all young and would colour up and get no bigger than 1 and half inches (I wanted a big one but was worried about the size of them with my tank size!). I’ve added a pic of my snail top and underneath, and I’ve got a bit of a better pic of the new guy- hard when it’s so tiny! He moves the same as my rabbit snail, body moved forward then arches as he pulls his shell to catch up.

I’ve found the snail mine should be and it’s very golden, mine is pretty much black!

I think so, especially the dark part of the shell and the way he moves. I’m really worried about accidentally hoovering him up when I do water changes.

When you zoom in, yes it’s a black variant of a Sulawesi (mine are the standard yellow). My baby ones have smoother, more elongated shells.

It took quite a lot of waiting for that side shot of him 🤣 Even my original snail hasn’t got a very elongated shell, it’s not that much longer than it is wide. Lost the little guy already, he covered a lot of area quickly. The shrimp disappear a lot too! Haven’t seen the one carrying eggs all day, hope she’s okay.

Another tiny snail, this doesn’t look like a rabbit snail either. Is it a pest? Where on earth has it come from as I haven’t added anything new to the tank.

They can live in ponds can’t they, I might kick him out if I see him again and put him in the small wildlife pond I have.
