ok that makes sense now, but that still leaves your APS 2000EF having the pull the water through two canisters I would expect some loss in overall performance, reducing the overall mass of the media could well help, trial and error, good luck.

Ok so having done some retesting after using some PTFE tape to make sure my test pipe was properly sealing and not letting any of the flow bypass it I've now got a slightly revised figure of 2.3 seconds average (down from 2.5) which equates to 783LPH (up from 682LPH) which equates to just over 3.5 turnovers per hour (up from a smidgin of 3 turnovers per hour) on my calculated water volume.
Also looking at the flow pattern (without the spray bar fitted. Outlet is back Left top, inlet is back right bottom + 2 airstones under the heaters) I don't think I would want it any more "turgid" than this (maybe other peoples opinions will differ) so I think rather than trying to increase the flow through the canisters I'll probably look at using a secondary air powered sponge filter (as I do in The Fireplace) such as one of these .
Only downside there is it's "one more thing" in there that isn't a fish or a plant or a rock ;o)
Using something like this in Land mode in line means I could hide it in the cabinet.
On the other hand having it submersed and feeding into the inlet means no worries about priming in the event of a power cut but again it's "one more thing"
Hmmmm

Personally, I think the set-up should be fine. If it all go's pear shaped you can have me shot!

it's all a learning curve , I'm only 5 months into this game
Think I will probably add an air powered sponge filter as a secondary, can't do any harm .

Should be fine. A air powered sponge filter, might I suggest one like this...

If you're still intent on keeping angels, that flow may actually be too much.
