hmmm my brains thinking.

A submersible air pump.

Think about it.

the water would provide sound dampening, you just need a snorkel on it for the air intake.

I have the Eheim 200 and can hardly hear it when in use (not used on main aquarium).
The Eheim Air 200 is only £24.95 from Charterhouse Aquatics (Link)

Stay safe & healthy everyone
Cool cheers mate.

Damn Mikey, thought you could go on dragons den!

I have one made by all pond solutions. And it's a very light hum. Not silent but quiet enough. £10 on amazon with tube and stones.

That being said I dont know if the larger size pumps make more noise.

I've got numerous tetra tex APS pumps. The APS 50, 100, 150 and 400 on various tanks. The only noise I hear is the sound of the air passible through airstones in the tank or bubbling at the surface. The air pumps are in the stands with closed doors. As long as the plug cable and/ or the air hose itself doesn't come into contact with anything directly from the pump I can't hear the actual pumps at all. I had a 150 make noise once, retuned it under warranty and all quiet since.

I’m with Si4geckos, I changed my original pump for a tetra APS 100 and its nice and quiet, only hear the bubbles! Did lots of research to find a quiet one before choosing it. Under the current set up its sitting on the floor so if could be noisy it would be there.

I've been running a VLIKE for a couple of years with no issues. Not very expensive and virtually silent. They do a dual output model so if you want you can run lines to different ends of the tank if so desired.
Just checked, the single output version with air line, non return valve and small air stone included £12:99 on Amazon Inc delivery.
