Ah OK. So because I reduced my stock gradually then all of a sudden put a large amount of ammonia in the filter is catching up. I just assumed my filter should be able to process the 2ppm all the time. That makes sense thanks.
I will test in the morning and as Mikey said test after adding the ammonia also to see actually how much ammonia is going in.
Sorry, for a moment I just had a bit of a panic

Ok think its back on track this morning. I put my floating plants back in last night just to see if anything would happen to the nitrates. Although you can't see it in the picture the red is nowhere near as deep as it was. Nitrites gone.
Dosed 3ml of ammonia. Tested 15 mind later. Also tested tap as hadn't done it for a while. Tap coming out at between 10 and 20 ppm. Ammonia came out at between 1 and 2 ppm so dosed an extra 1ml.

It does show that the nitrite munchers are quite resilient as they haven't taken much time to reboost the colonies.

Double zero after 24 hours
I've taken it upon myself to clean the sponges today(as stupid as that may be). But I've got such a lot of organic waste and where I've been pulling up plants the tank has been a mess this last couple of weeks. Also thought it would be a good to actually see what the effects of cleaning were at this specific point in maintaining a cycle.
So will be interesting to see if I maintain the double zero tomorrow after the cleaning. I have however dosed stability the same as yesterday just to be slightly sensible

I may have inadvertently started the "muncher" phenomenon some years ago, unless I picked it up from someone else and went with it. I don't rightly remember which......
I decided I would never remember all the things that look after the cycle so went with munchers as they aren't all strictly bacteria.......
(In a Hagrid voice...... "sorry 'bout that")

I did wonder - they aren't very stable for about 3 months and don't usually enjoy being bashed about.
