I was pulling your leg, having realised the mistake I'd made forgetting you used ammonia for your cycling.
...hang on a minute, less of old! More mature thank you.

Normally I would agree, but considering the size of Mikey's tank don't think he'd have to many worry's mixing Angelfish with Apistogramma's.

I seem to recall from another thread where the conversation turned to the first moon landing that I may be a little older than you (or was it the other way around??)

Just to get back to the fish for a moment: if you're running the tank at 27C, wouldn't that be too warm for your platys? Some of the variatus platties are more temperate fish but even the others are usually good with 24/25C max.

Well I wasn't expecting that, where's all my Nitrate gone?
Even cracked open a new spare testing kit and retested using those previously unopened reagents.
Nada, zilch, not a sausage.
Ok so there was a very small water change yesterday (actually less than 5%) but that shouldn't have made such a huge difference.
Only thing I can think is that all the slow /still water trapped in the alfagrog under the mound (which is fed by gaps in the lava rock) is acting like a giant anaerobic reactor and the munchers have just kicked in !!!
Note, Fireplace always runs at pretty much zero nitrate. Always attributed that to the fact that the bioload must be lower than the plants take up of nitrate as it rarely gets ferts added, maybe once a month if that.

I thought this tank, although being 300l wasn't much more than 3' long? Hence my comment about apistos and removing angels when they pair up???
Have I got confused with someone else again????
