Aqua One Aquanano 40 any good?

Post by Spies »

Looking for a nice sleek tank with a rimless design to house a Betta, the Aquanano 40 appears to tick all the boxes, anyone have any input and maybe any alternatives?

I like how the pump equipment is all hidden from view, looking to pay about £130 for the tank.

Thanks

Be aware that the newer ones seem to have sh*t build quality when it comes to the acrylic divider for the filter compartment. That's the main reason i got rid of mine.

If you get one with a solid divider then you'll be laughing :) My first one was spot on ( about 4-5 years ago ) but my latest one was shocking.

The pumps can be a bit loud. Fit them upside down ( so adjustment is at the bottom ) as this will allow a bit more wiggle room when it comes to evaporation. A good mod is to replace the standard pump with an Eheim Compact 300/600 and run a bit of pipe back up to the output hole, with a 90 Degree adapter on the end.

When the pump isn't pulling air in, is it quiet enough for a bedroom?

Depends. I couldn't put up with it in the living room, but the slightest hum drives me mad! They are not the quietest pumps by a long shot, but if a slight hum doesn't bother you then it will probably be ok.

Would need the pump outlet kit in order to get the spraybar, as the flow might be too strong for the betta with the supplied outlet?

You can adjust the flow using the slider. I ran the Eheim Compact 600 in mine with a betta and he was fine. BUT he doesn't have massive fins so doesn't get blown around as easily.

Don't know why you do not try what I suggested, a heavily planted tank with just a heater and light. There would no noise and for a single Betta would perfectly OK to use. ;)
