How long do you recon for ammonia to build up?

I put sinking pellets in it. It’s for a wee lesson on the nitrogen cycle for my P5s - just for fun. They are enjoying my fish videos! 🤣

Heterotrophic bacteria will need to build up to breakdown the food and release the ammonia. It’ll start straight away if it’s dechlorinated, and it should appear on a test in maybe a week or so, depending on how sensitive the test kit is.

Your water's quite soft, so it should be relatively quickly 3-5 days probably as I don't know whether the pellets are coated or not.......
