i just looked at the juwel tank and it is really nice but slightly to big for the unit we have.
this basically all started as my wife got an old dark mahogany wooden unit and i said imagine a fish tank sitting on there.
so i have myself to blame as her reply was oh wow that would be so cool, so here i am doing my homework to build her this tank lol.

...and not just the finished article. Take plenty of pics of the whole building process, too. Looks crazy to me, wouldn't even know where to start such a project but always admire people who can do such a thing.

...and after that, the tank log :D

so here are a few pics of the unit the wife wanted as a tank, took a blimming long time to rub it all down fill the little niks on the wood,
also spent a while strengthening up the unit itself.
removed all the glass from the doors so i could paint it.
also decided to make our own back ground with some polystyrene and concrete.
made a little water feature too and im going to run a small tube off the inlet hose from the external filter so it can trickle down into the tank.
quite a difference already.
that is it for now.
thanks.

Its starting to look quite sleek and certainly unique. ::thumbu::

How tall is the tank going to be? Not all the way to the top, I'm guessing, or maintenance would be a weekly nightmare... ;)

Perhaps it could be more of a paludarium - lights at the top, water trickling down all sides, lots of plants hanging down into a shallow pool...

you nailed it in one @Ric, the tank will be 30 inches tall with lights at the top and lots of plants hanging down,
there is a cut out at the top of the unit as well on hinges just in case i need to access the top at all.
