Recently the blanket weed has took over again, someone suggested to put a bag of watercress in, I was dubious but a few days ago cleared a little off the top and tipped a bag in, the next day the leaves had rotated to face up and now it has grown some root :) in the pic you can see it in the bottom RH corner

I need to clear some more off give the plant a chance, I also looked for toad spawn as I have several in the garden couldn't see any, on further research seems they prefer deep ponds, never mind, on the plus side now have baby newts, they are tiny, and are like supercharged versions of the adults, very quick!

We were watching Springwatch and theres been a decline in newts in the uk. Nice to see they’ve bred in your pond :)

Quick update, pond still doing well, 2 different sizes of baby newt in there now but they don't grow very fast, plus very happy to see 2 baby frogs again different sizes so that's good I wasn't sure any would make it, the blanket weed is not as bad but I still have to take some out each week to keep it looking ok, I don't mind doing it at the moment in the nice weather, means I have to make at least some time for it I like to see what I can spot,

For the first time ever I filled it up that was last week, it took ages I didn't realize how low it had got, some of the plants suffered as they were out of water, sadly I found the large adult frog dead on the lawn on that super hot day poor thing, also not seen the adult newts for a while hope they are ok, plant wise I added a nice Canna that I got cheap in an end of season sale, end of what season I'm not sure!
Here is a pic I took the other day, plus (cheating here) one of a brilliant moth a spotted in the flower bed which borders the RH side of the pond, it's a humming-bird-hawk-moth

Love a hummingbird hawk moth! My cats always bring in the caterpillars... but they usually survive :)

Not much going on with the indoor fish tanks, but been out in garden today so can do a pond update, the snow pic is from last month just after I had given it a clean out, only the top third as so much lives in the silt at the bottom, got most of the blanket weed out with a net and pulled all the pots out, that took ages as they were all rooted into each other in a big tangled mess, today I have just started putting back the pots that are showing some life so it looks a bit bare right now,
Some good news, the frogspawn that was laid mostly out of the water as the pond was frozen at the time has hatched out today, it's a wriggling mass down there so looks like they survived :)

Your pond looks great, I wish we had more space in our garden. As it is we have a little 500 ltr nature pond and like you it's a wriggling mass right now.

No pictures of the pond but I took this last week to send to my dad, he doesn't sleep well and I suggested counting these instead of sheep 🤪
